FLOYD LAVON MILLER
FLOYD LAVON MILLER, age 88, of Avilla died on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.
Mr. Miller was born in Fort Wayne on December 22, 1921 to Oral and Ruth (Zuber) Miller.
 He married Ellen S. (Cox) Miller on August 30, 1974 and she survives in Avilla.
 Mr. Miller was a lifetime Noble County farmer also working at Form Tubes in Albion and Dexter Axle in Albion until he retired in 1985.  In his younger years he worked in the construction business with his father digging basements and doing other concrete work.
  He was a member of the former Faith Freewill Baptist Church in Kendallville.
 Survivors include:

 Funeral services will be Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor James A. Caudill. Burial will be at Rehobeth Cemetery in Albion, Indiana.

IRVIN BURELISON
IRVIN “Burley” LAWRENCE BURELISON, age 84, formerly of Angola and most recently of Kendallville, died on Friday morning, September 3, 2010, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.
 Mr. Burelison was born in Richmond, Indiana on February 22, 1926 to the late James L. Burelison and Ada (Maude) Phillips.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from May 1944 to April 1946 and attained the rank of Seaman First Class.
 When he returned from the war, he married Ella Jane Floyd on November 9, 1946 in Richmond, Indiana and she preceded his death November 22, 2002 after 56 years of marriage.
 Irvin was employed with the Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne for 32 years.
 He was a member of the The Vision Church in Angola, Past Master of the Home Lodge in Fort Wayne, and member of the Scottish Rite. 
 Survivors include:
Daughter, Sandra and Jim Balch of St. Louis, Missouri.
Daughter, Karen and Dan Charters of Fort Wayne.
Son, James and Joy Burelison of Angola.
Daughter, Sheryl and Clyde Meade of Angola.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 3:30 PM at Hite Funeral Home. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Matthew Tosten. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Wesley Thomas Mills
Wesley Thomas Mills, 77 of rural Avilla, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Laurels of De Kalb in Butler.
He was born on November 27, 1932 in harlan, Indiana to Kenneth and Ruth (Ward) Mills and was a 1951 graduate of Leo High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Magnavox in October of 1993 after 28 years of service as a electronic techinican.
He enjoyed basketball and farming.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Jennifer Mills of Avilla and Susan and Nathaniel Earl of Auburn.
2 Grandsons; Quinton C. Mills and Nathaniel Earl IV.
1 brother Russell Mills of Anderson and Marjorie Carmean of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jean (Baker) Mills in 1998.
Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel.
The Rev. Lois Watkins will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Hooper King Cemetery Near Avilla with military graveside service by the Avilla American Legion Post # 240.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Noble County Humane Shelter.

 

Arthur J. Litchfield
Arthur J. Litchfield, 75, of Rome City died Monday, August 30, 2010, at 12:55 p.m. in his residence.
Mr. Litchfield had lived at Sylvan Lake for 16 years, coming from Fort Wayne. He was a 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne.
He had worked at City Utilities in Fort Wayne. He retired in 1997 from Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 166, and had been a member of the union for 54 years.
He served in the Indiana Air National Guard for 8 1/2 years. He was a member of the Men's Auxiliary of VFW Post 2749 and Sons of the American Legion Post 381.
He was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City and Knights of Columbus Council No. 7839, Kendallville.
He was instrumental in raising funds for Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne to build and maintain the football field. He sold cards at the bingo games and helped build Luersfield itself.
He was born July 20, 1935, in Fort Wayne to Evert and Julia (Bobay) Litchfield. On July 9, 1955, in Fort Wayne he married Jacqueline Beaty.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Litchfield of Rome City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and William Vorndran of Auburn, Nancy and Gilbert Roux of Billerica, Massachusetts, and Karen and Mike Roesler of Fort Wayne; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Katy Litchfield of Fort Wayne, Steve and Kara Litchfield of New Haven, Mark and Wendy Litchfield of Fort Wayne, and Michael and Shannon Litchfield of Jamestown, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Ilene Happ of Michigan, Dorothy Hensinger of Fort Wayne, and Lucille Smith of Fort Wayne; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Litchfield of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Minich; and a brother, Donald Litchfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City, with co-celebrants Father Bernard Ramenaden and Father Joseph Gaughan officiating. Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery.
Calling is Thursday, September 2, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. A rosary
service will be conducted at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7839. Calling will also be on Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.
Preferred memorials are to Redeemer Radio, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or Masses to the church.

 

BEATRICE  ARNOLD
BEATRICE  ARNOLD, age 67, of Kendallville, died on Friday, August 27, 2010 at her home in Kendallville with her family surrounding her bedside.
Mrs. Arnold was born in Jacks Creek, Kentucky on February 14, 1943 to the late Earl and Hazel (Johnson) Slone.
She married Ross Arnold on July 26, 1968 in Kendallville.
 Bea retired in 2005 from TeleFlex, formerly Siebe and Eaton Controls after for many of service.
 She was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle in Kendallville.
 Bea loved to read her Bible and other Christian related books
She loved to sing and attend church, tend to her flower gardens, and her "little baby" dog, Harley.
Bea also enjoyed attending her grandkids sporting events, being with people, travelling.
One of her lifelong dreams was to coach a youth softball team and she was head coach for one season in the
Kendallville Youth Softball league.
Another highlight of Bea’s life was when she promoted to a line supervisor at Colwell.
 Survivors include:

Dorothy Kay (Frech) Rebman Wheatley
Dorothy Kay (Frech) Rebman Wheatley, 73, of Rome City died Friday, August 27, 2010, in her residence where her son, Jaye and his friend, Wendy, had been taking care of her.
Mrs. Wheatley had lived in Rome City for ten years, coming from Fort Wayne. She retired in 2007 from Hendrickson Suspension in Kendallville where she worked in shipping and receiving.
She was born October 17, 1936, in Fort Wayne to Kendall and Alice (Denzel) Frech.
Surviving are a daughter and her friend, Sherry Schroeder and Jay Gleason of Holland, Ohio; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jaye Rebman and his friend, Wendy Wood, of Wolcottville, and Michael and Kristy Rebman of Nashville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Ashley Schroeder of Michigan, Kaylie Schroeder of Holland, Ohio, Andrea Schroeder of Holland, Ohio, Jason Rebman of Nebraska, and Stephanie Grubb of Wolcottville; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Rebman on April 25, 2010; a brother, James Frech; a sister, Marsha Edwards; and two husbands, Dan Rebman and John Wheatley.
Calling will be Wednesday, September 1, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
There will be no funeral service.

 

Archie Holliday
Archie Holliday, 79, of Rome City died Friday, August 27, 2010, at 11:03 a.m., in his residence.
Mr. Holiday retired as a machine operator having worked for Group Dekko in South Milford and Albion.
He had served in the United States Army during the Korean war.
He was born June 29, 1931, in Knott County, Kentucky to Jim and Nancy (Combs) Holliday. On December 17, 1955 in Jeffersonville he married Geneva Mullins.
Surviving are his wife, Geneva Holliday of Rome City; two sons, Doug and Mallia Holliday of Rome City, and Todd and April Holliday of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Patricia and Mike Maberson of Fort Wayne, Tara and Daniel Hayes of Albion and Tina and Darris Campbell of Kendallville; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Homister of Kendallville; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Flora Holliday of Rome City and Kizer and Vena Holliday of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church, Lisbon, with the Elders of the church officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.
Calling will be Sunday, August 29, 2010, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church. An evening service will be held at 6 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church.

 

LEROY “GUMP” BALLARD
LEROY “GUMP” BALLARD, age 84, of Wolcottville, died on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne.
 Mr. Ballard was born in Decatur, Indiana on August 13, 1926 to the late Leroy and Pearl (Burkhead) Ballard.
 Leroy milked cows for many years for John Schmerhorn of Brimfield.
 Survivors include:

HELEN MAE KUKUTSIS

HELEN MAE KUKUTSIS, age 81, of Kendallville, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
 Mrs. Kukutsis was born in Brimfield, Indiana on November 16, 1928 to the late Merle and Modelle (McDonald) Ramer. She graduated from Rome City High School in 1946.     
 Helen was a waitress for 35 years at the Orchard Ridge Country Club in Fort Wayne. She volunteered many hours at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
Helen was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville.
 Survivors include:
Daughter, Heidi and Brad Wolf of Kendallville.
Grandchildren: Mandy Stephens of Kendallville, Christopher and Angela Wolf of Kendallville,
Zackary and Morgan Wolf of Kendallville, and Jason and Carmela Bloom of Fort Wayne.
Great grandchildren: Caleb Stephens, Logan Stephens, Mattison Stephens, Jocilynn Wolf,
Nevaeh Wolf, and Teagan Wolf.

 She was also preceded in death by her son, Victor Bloom, who died in 2005; her three sisters, Dorothy, Sandra, and Carol Ann; and three husbands, Vance Bloom, the father of her children, George Kukutsis, and Oscar Kline.
 Memorial services celebrating of the life of Helen Kukutsis will be Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. There will be a reception luncheon following the memorial service.  Officiating the service will be Rev. Paul  B. Griebel.

ELIZABETH WEBER, age 54, of Avilla, died on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne.
 Mrs. Weber was born in Garrett, Indiana on November 30, 1955 to the late Bennie and Dorothy (Handshoe) Conley. She graduated from East Noble High School in 1974 and married Nick Weber on June 30, 1974.
 Elizabeth was employed as a supervisor for about 20 years with TD Shea in Kendallville.
Survivors include:
Her husband, Nick Weber of Avilla.
Son, Jason Weber of Albion.
Son, Justin Weber of Albion.
Grandchildren: Byron Weber, Breanne Weber, Benjamin Weber, and Skyler DuBois.

 She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Conley.

Talia Joy Smith
Talia Joy Smith, age 20, a resident of LaOtto, passed away WednesdayÊ August 18, 2010 as the result of a car-bicycle accident on Old S. R. 3 north of C.R. 400 S.
She was born on April 30, 1990 in Fort Wayne to Brad and Mary (Speakman) Smith.Talia graduatedÊ from East Noble High School in 2008, an Honor Graduate (Top 10 in her class). She desired to pursue vocal performance and acting professionally, aiming toward Broadway. She was attending New York University, (currently a junior, earning a 3.87 GPA) on academic scholarship to pursue her dream by majoring in Music Theater and Vocal Performance at the Steinhardt School of Culture and Education. She had just signed on to a new job as the Personal Assistant to the Assistant Musical Theater Program Director at NYU. Talia enjoyed singing, reading, dancing, shopping, being with her friends, and spending time with family. She attended church at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was a record breaking swimmer, beginning at age 6 with the YMCA through freshman year in high school. Multiple show choir competitions, grand champion soloist; highlighted by wins at DeKalb, Belmont, Marion and Carroll. Talia was an Honor Thespian, landing many significant roles in EN productions. In June 2010 she performed professionally for the first time in concert at NYU for the 25th celebration of faculty resource network. Talia lived by the quote: if you can dream it; you can do it; (Walt Disney), and was easiest described with these three words: Live, Laugh, Love.
She is survived by her parents, Mary and Brad Smith of La Otto, grandmother Darlene Smith of Churubusco, Aunt and Uncle Nila and Ken Harman of Indianapolis, cousins Jacob and Jonathan, aunt and uncle Cynthia and Marty Boros of Houston, Tx. cousins Michael (Courtney) Melissa (Andy), and Catherine, grandparents Greta and Bill Speakman of Garrett, aunt and uncle Bill and Dinah Speakman of Kendallville; cousins James (Emily), April and Misty, aunt and uncle Deborah spearman) and Rob Aikins of Garrett. Cousins Clifford (Grim) Cari (Grim), Dekota, aunt and Uncle Kathy and Gary Carr of Kendallville, cousins Christina and Casandra, uncle Dan Speakman of Churubusco; cousins Amy (Bottoma), Amber (Bottoma), Daniel, Lisa-Jo and a special young man in her life; Christopher McMahon and his parents, Patricia Repola and Jim McMahon. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Max Smith and maternal Aunt Barbara Speakman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday August 24, 2010 in the First Christian Church located at 110 W. Waits Road in Kendallville, with Pastor Larry Smith and Dr. Thomas R. Clothier officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco. There will be one hour of calling in the church preceding the service. Burial will follow in the Eel River Cemetery South of Churubusco.
For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, First Christian Church, or to the family to set up a future scholarship fund.

ELIZABETH ANN “LIZ” SEPTER
ELIZABETH ANN “LIZ” SEPTER, age 88, of Kendallville, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.
Ms. Septer was born in Huntington, Indiana on May 24, 1922 to the late James D. Septer and Marguerite Ann (Sult) Septer.
 Elizabeth was a printing press operator and employed with Our Sunday Visitor in Huntington for 30 years before she retired in 1986. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville where she belonged to the Rosary Sodality.  She also was a past member of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church while living 12 years at Big Long Lake.
 Survivors include:
Liz raised as a son, Kent Hale of Port Charlotte, Florida and his wife, Donna.
Brother-in-law, James and Jean Robinson of Fort Wayne.
Nieces, Linda Richardson of Houston, Texas, Mary and Dennis Robels of Ossian, Laura Frederick of Angola, and Diane Robinson of Fort Wayne.
Nephews, Steve and Lulu Robinson of Blaine, Minnesota and Jim and Angela Robinson of Ft. Pierce Beach, Florida.
 She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Eugene Septer, and her life long companion and best friend, Betty Robinson, who died February 21, 2006.
 Visitation will be Friday, August 20, 2010 from 4:00-7:00pm at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street in Kendallville.
 Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, at the corner of Diamond and Oak Streets in Kendallville. Officiating the funeral service will be Fr. James Stoyle. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington, Indiana.

Donna J. Sizemore
Donna J. Sizemore, 65, of Big Turkey Lake died Thursday, August 12, 2010, in her residence.
Mrs. Sizemore retired in January, 1998, from Dana Corp. after 32 years of service. She had worked 28 years in Angola and 4 years in Syracuse.  For the last ten years she had worked at Pilot/Wendy's in Fremont.
She was born July 22, 1945, in Hardburly, Kentucky, to Watson and Gladys (Combs) Owens.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jaquetta and Matt Alexander of Tucson, Arizona; a son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Sherry Noll of Big Turkey Lake; six grandchildren; a sister, Carol Walters of Kentucky; and two brothers, Jerry and Arletta Smith of Angola and James Owens of Big Turkey Lake.
She was preceded in death by her father, Watson Owens; her mother Gladys Smith; and a brother, Jackie Owens.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Stroh Church of Christ with Pastor Lloyd Jury of the Stroh Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery.
Calling is Sunday, August 15, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.

 

BETTY J. COFFMAN
BETTY J. COFFMAN, age 87, of Kendallville, died on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
Mrs. Coffman was born in Ligonier, Indiana on April 23, 1923 to the late Charles Clarence Brady and Harriett Jane (Damey) Brady. She graduated from Ligonier High School in 1941 and married John Eldon Coffman at the Evangelical United Brethren Church parsonage in Ligonier on February 19, 1944.  John preceded her death on June 24, 1991.
 She was a city girl who married a farmer and for many Betty worked alongside her husband on their dairy farm near Ligonier.  Along with working on the farm, she was employed with the East Noble School Corporation as a cook at the Rome City school for 6 years. She also worked for 20 years at United Technology in Topeka and retired from Essex Wire in 1985.
 She moved to The Lamplighter in Kendallville in 1987 and enjoyed spending time with her many friends there. For 20 years, she served as president of the Advisory Resident Council and as commissioner on the Kendallville Housing Authority. 
Survivors include:
Daughter, Janet and Ernest Cook of Wawaka.
Son, Carl and Linda Coffman of Kimmell.
Son, John and Suzanne Coffman of Kendallville.
7 grandchildren: Stephanie, Sara, Carrie, Kevin, Jenny, Amanda and Mary Rose. 
12 great grandchildren: Kayla, Matthew, Jarod, Megan, Trevor, Tyler, Logan, Katelyn, Zach, Patrick, Chris, and Viktor.
Her dear friend, Carolyn Eichman of Kendallville.
She was also preceded in death by and uncle, Alfred Brady, who raised her.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 3:00-8:00pm at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 11:00am at Brimfield United Methodist Church.
There will be an hour of visitation before the funeral at the church. Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Omer Nisley. Burial will be at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Preferred memorials may be made to Parkview Noble Home Health and Hospice.
Casketbearers will be Kevin Coffman, Terry Crandall, Scott Rainey, Steven Brantz, Kerry Hawk, Richard Smuts.

 

GENEVIEVE J HASSELMAN
GENEVIEVE J HASSELMAN, 91, of Kendallville died on Saturday, August 7, 2010.
She was born in Metz, Indiana on September 28, 1918 to the late Charles Earl Parr and Katherine Margaret (Hovarter) Parr. Mrs. Hasselman graduated from Avilla High School in 1937.
She married Walter Menzel on December 18, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and he preceded her in death in October of 1952. She later married Ralph Henry Hasselman on August 29, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Corunna.  Mr. Hasselman passed away June 10, 2003.
 Mrs. Hasselman  was a life long homemaker and hard working farm wife.  She also worked at several different places during her life.  She first worked at the Trenton Garment Factory in Kendallville.  Then she worked for Monsanto in Ligonier.  She later worked at Puritan Ice Cream in Kendallville and lastly she worked at the Lutheran Home in Kendallville until she retired in the early 1970's.
She was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and a former member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aide and the Altar Guild.  She was also involved in parent teacher organization for Zion Lutheran school.

Visitation will be Tuesday August 10, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Kendallville. Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Paul  B. Griebel. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville, Indiana.
 Preferred memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Church Doctor Ministries.
Casketbearers will be Philip Stephan II, Christopher Fitch, Joel Ackerman, Jonathan Hunter, David Bruce and Jason Atkinson. Honorary Casketbears will be Brent Fitch, Derrick Ackerman and Deidre Bruce.

 

William D. Cook
William D. Cook, 75, a resident of Avilla, and formerly of Auburn and Huntertown, passed away at 10:00 p. m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Northridge Village Nursing Home in Albion, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.
Mr. Cook was born in Fort Wayne on January 25, 1935, a son of Bernard and Hope (Kuzeff) Cook, and spent his formative years there.  As a young man he served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, and was married in Angola on July 20, 1953 to Shirley Spangle.
He was employed for 28 years at International Harvester in Fort Wayne, and was later worked as an independent contractor.  In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, race car driving, and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years  Shirley; his children William (Renee) Cook, Jr. of Angola, Lisa (Robert) Hostetter of Rome City, Mark (Reesa) Cook of Fort Wayne, Scott Cook of Albion, and Dwayne Kazmierczak of Granger; a brother Gary (Diana) Cook of Auburn; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Pelz.
At the request of the family, there will be no services or calling hours.  Memorials may be directed to Indiana University Hospital, 550 N. University Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46202

 

George Arnold Bohnenberger
George Arnold Bohnenberger, age 77, died on August 4, 2010 at 10:30 pm at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Garrett. He had been declining in health for the past 3 months.
A lifetime Noble County resident, he was born in Green Township on September 14, 1932, and was the son of Karl Jacob Anton and Erma Lucille (Brown) Bohnenberger.
On September 13, 1958 he married Mrytle Owen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla. She survives in rural Avilla.
Mr. Bohnenberger worked at Zollner Pistons in Fort Wayne for 27 years and retired from there in 1992. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was assigned to the Tank Battalion.
He was a very active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, was a member of the United Auto Workers #2357 in Fort Wayne, American Legion Post #240 in Avilla. He collected toy tractors, and enjoyed reading farm magazines, and photography.
Other survivors include a daughter and son in law, Barbara Ann and Denny Weber of Kendallville. Brothers, Grover Eugene Bohnenberger of Avilla, Glen Ervin Bohnenberger of Wheatland, Wyoming. A aister and borther in law, Norma Jean and Phillip Pippenger of Churubusco. A brother in law, Paul Miller of Defiance, Ohio.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Avilla, with an hour of calling before the service. Pastor Thomas Dunbar will officiate.
Calling is also from 3 until 7 Sunday evening at Brazzell Funeral home, Avilla Chapel.
Burial following the funeral will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Please make memorials in memory of George Bohnenberger to the American Legion Post #240, Immanueal Lutheran Church or the Noble County Humane Society.

 

VANITA MARGUERITE COE
VANITA MARGUERITE COE, age 71, of rural Kendallville, died on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Mrs. Coe was born near Albion, Ind. on April 27, 1939 to the late Harold Waugh and Ocie Fay (Loveall) Ott.
 She graduated from Albion Jefferson High School in the spring of 1957 and later that year married Carey Lee Coe on October 6, 1957 in Kimmell, Ind.  He preceded her in death June 23, 2008. 
 Vanita worked with her husband on the farm all of her married life and she was a dedicated homemaker and mother to her four children.
In her younger days, Vanita was a waitress at the V&A Restaurant and she also worked in the office at McCray Refrigeration Company in Kendallville.
Later on, she went into photography and was employed with Mains Photography for several years. She went on to open her own photography business, Vanita's Studio, which she operated for many years. 
 Vanita’s true passion in life was serving others through the work of her church, Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, of  rural Kendallville. She taught confirmation class, she assisted with Vacation Bible School every summer, she was a youth and adult Sunday school teacher, and she was a member of the Guardian Angels.
 Survivors include:
Son, Jeffrey and Marcy Coe of Kendallville.
Son, Douglas and Portia Coe of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Susan and Michael Curtis of Albion.
Daughter, Sandra and Dan Maki of Ishpeming, Michigan.
Twelve grandchildren: Kari Ann, Travis and his fiancé, Sarah Baker, Lacy and Cheston Coe of Kendallville; Spencer and Shelby Coe of Fort Wayne; Kathy, Nick, Gabe and Michaela Curtis of Albion; Jake and Sarina Maki of Ishpeming, Michigan.
Two great grandchildren: Dillion Coe and Mia Pita.
Four step-grandchildren: Jereme, Jackie, and Joel Ritchie and Jennifer Fuller all of Kendallville.
Seven step-great grandchildren.
Brother, Steve and Pat Ott of Bonita Springs, Florida.
 Visitation will be Friday, August 6, 2010, from 3:00-8:00pm at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street in Kendallville.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00am at the Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, on 2520 N. 600 E. rural Kendallville.  There will be an hour of visitation before the service. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Phyllis Smoot. Burial will be at Sweet Cemetery near Albion. Casketbearers will be her six grandsons.
Preferred Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church.

 

HERMAN SMITH
HERMAN SMITH, age 83, of Brimfield, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at North Ridge Village Nursing & Rehab Center in Albion.
Mr. Smith was born in Anco, Kentucky on June 16, 1927 to Samuel and Bertha (Robertson) Smith.          
 He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the MP Co 7th Infantry Division.  He was also in the Glider Infantry Regiment. He served in the the George Washington Troop honor guard in Berlin after WWII. He was awarded the WWII Victory ribbon and WWII Occupation of Japan and Germany medals.  Herman was a life member of the VFW Post # 2749 of Kendallville and the Rome City American Legion Post # 381 and was a very dedicated member of the Military Funeral Honor Guard.
 He married Geneva (Barnett) Smith in October 1950 in Kentucky and she preceded his death in 1978. Herman retired as a general foreman and coremaker with Kendallville Foundry in 1982.
 Herman loved to play and listen to the fiddle and violin. He enjoyed blue grass music, square dancing, playing cards, and gardening.  He also loved to hunt mushrooms and deer hunting.  Herman was an avid private pilot and often talked about his flying days.  He also played the game of golf very well. 
 Survivors include:

Daughter, Jeannine and David Criswell of Auburn.
Son, Mike and Gloria Smith of Berne, Indiana.
Son, Wayne Smith of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Debb and Jim Ebersole of Indianapolis.
8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Brother, Hargis and Grace Smith of Wawaka.
Brother, Herbert and Nancy Smith of San Diego, California.
Brother, Hobert and Lorraine Smith of China Grove, North Carolina.
Brother, Howard and Juanita Smith of Salisbury, North Carolina.
Brother, Homer Smith of Wolf Lake, Indiana.
 He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Criswell in 2005, his brother, Harold Smith and an infant sister.
 Visitation will be Friday, July 30, 2010, from 4:00-8:00pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 1:00pm at Hite Funeral Home.
Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Omer Nisley.
Burial will be at Orange Cemetery in Rome City.
Casketbearers will be his grandsons, John Lehman, Jr., Shaun Lehman, David Criswell in honor of his late grandson, Tyler Criswell, Matthew Smith, Andrew Smith and Mark Smith.

 

Margaret A. Persons
Margaret A. Persons, 82 formerly of Kendallville and most recently of Pinehurst North Carolina, passed away at the First Health Hospital in Pinehurst on July 26, 2010.
Margaret was born February 19, 1928 in Laotto, Indiana to Conrad and Josephine Beltz. She was the youngest of the 8 Beltz children, all of whom have proceeded her in death.
Margaret married Edwin Persons, Sr. in 1947, and they were blessed with two children. ...
Margaret is survived by her husband Ed, daughter Connie Heimann and son-inlaw Jack, all of Pinehurst; plus grandson Greg Heimann with wife Michele, great-grandson Gavin and great-granddaughter Estel of Tampa Florida, plus grandson Carey with wife Liza and great-grandson Oliver of St.Louis.
Margaret and Ed's son Bud Persons passed away in 2002.
Margaret was a strong supporter of her broad Indiana family, and easily made friends in Missouri where they also lived for nearly 20 years.
As with her 4 sisters, she was a great cook.
Like many members of the original Beltz family, Margaret maintained a membership or loyalty to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in her hometown of Laotto Indiana, where funeral services will be held on Thursday July 29th at 11:00am.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery.
