Man found in field after truck hits pole near Avilla
Early Friday at 1:35 am, Jan. 20, Noble County Communications received a call about a suspicious vehicle with a male subject walking around in the area of CR 1200 E and Baseline Rd. near Avila.
Noble County Deputies responded along with an Officer from Avilla PD to investigate. Officers arriving on the scene noticed heavy damage to the truck and it was learned that there was an accident involving a downed utility pole in Dekalb Co. The truck also appeared to have pieces from a utility pole stuck in the front and the damage appeared to be from a pole.
Officers began searching for the male subject that was reported to be with the vehicle. After a short time, foot prints were located and Sgt. Chris Moriarity began his track. The track went on through fields, trees, across ditches and back. Temperatures were well below freezing as Sgt. Moriarity continued the track while Avilla Officer Mike Duncan, and Deputy Jason Koontz attempted to work ahead with hopes of locating whoever had left the crashed truck behind.
Over an hour later, and nearly 2 miles on foot, a male subject was located at the end of the tracks in the middle of an open field. Officers took the male subject into custody and turned him over to Officers in Dekalb Co.
Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.
