AYCE FISH AND TENDERLOIN SUPPER The Noble County Community Fair Board will be hosting an All-You-Can-Eat Fish and Tenderloin Supper on Good Friday, April 2, 2010 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Log Building on the Fairgrounds in Kendallville.  The fish and tenderloin will be prepared by Dan’s Fry Service of Huntington.  Carry outs will be available.  The menu will include:  fish and/or tenderloin, green beans or corn, applesauce, bread and butter, ice cream and drink. Donation at the door:  adults - $8.50 each, children 6 to 12 years old - $6.00 each, children 5 and under – free.  Save money by getting your pre-event tickets for a donation of $8.00 per adult, and $5.50 for children 6 to 12 years old, available at the Extension Office in Albion or from Fair Board members. Avilla Easter Eggstravaganza Avilla Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Easter Eggstravaganza at the Avilla Park, W. Albion, in the community building on Saturday, April 3. Start the day with breakfast at 8 a.m., hosted by McDonald's in Avilla, with hotcakes and sausage. Pictures with the Easter Bunny start at 9 a.m. The Easter Egg Hunt is at 10 a.m. in three age groups: 0-4, 5-8, and 9-12. Donations for the activities come from the Avilla Chamber and The Ark of Avilla Assembly of God. Donations and information for the fireworks and parade in June will be available. HUNTER EDUCATION CLASSES OFFERED  The Noble County 4-H Program will offer Hunter Education Classes to all interested persons. Noble County Conservation Officer, Rodney Clear, will be conducting classes on Saturday, April 24, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Sunday, April 25, from 12 Noon to 6 PM, at the Noble County Office Complex-South, Albion.  These classes are open to all people interested in a Hunter Education class, as well as 4-H members. Faith UM Rummage Sale Faith United Methodist, 411 Harding St., Kendallville, hosts a rummage sale on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, on April 16-17. Saturday is a special sale, $1 per bag. Proceeds will be used to send the church's children to church camp. Kendallville & Limberlost Libraries Bargains at the Book Sale Kendallville, IN – The Kendallville Public Library a great place to find bargains on books…along with magazines and movies! New donations of magazines and VHS movies have beefed up the book sale stock, so now is the time to find the best selection and prices on some favorite magazine issues and movies.The next Friends of the Library Book Sale will be open to the public on Friday, March 12 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. As always, the store is overflowing with items, including fiction and non-fiction books, audio books and more. A special Members Only Preview Sale is open to Friends of the Library members on Thursday, March 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Members will need to show their membership card to gain entrance to the sale. It’s Time to Plan a Garden!  Kendallville and Rome City, IN – It’s time to Think Spring, and the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries are helping gardeners plan for the next season.  On Monday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Limberlost Public Library, Master Gardener Marilyn Carunchia will help new gardeners get started with Garden Design and Planning. She will explain how to get a garden ready, whether it’s new or old. She’ll also discuss where to place it, how to till and fertilize it and what plants to use in this zone. Registration is requested by calling the Limberlost Public Library at 854-2775.  Then on Thursday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kendallville Public Library, Judith Nastally of Neuhouser Gardens and Gifts will prove that beautiful landscaping doesn’t have to be a hassle! She’ll talk about No Maintenance Landscaping Using Native Plants. The cost of this program is $5 per person and paid registration is required at the Kendallville Public Library by Monday, March 15. Libraries Closed for Staff In-Service   Kendallville and Rome City, IN – The Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries will be CLOSED on Friday, March 19 for a Staff In-Service. Both libraries will reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20. An Insider Look at Kendallville’s Rail History Kendallville, IN – One of the Kendallville Public Library’s most popular programs is back…with a new look at Kendallville’s rail history. On Saturday, March 20 at 1:00 p.m., railroad historian Craig Berndt will present a fascinating look at the five electric Interurban Railroads that converged in Fort Wayne, one that ran through Kendallville in the early 1900’s.   Few interurbans survived the competition with automobiles and motor trucks, but their historical significance remains. Berndt’s presentation will cover the five electric interurban railroads that converged at Ft. Wayne.  The endpoints of the lines when fully built were at Lafayette (reached Ft. Wayne in 1902), Lima, Ohio (1905), Kendallville & Waterloo via Garrett (1906), Marion via Bluffton (1907), and Decatur (1907).  They were built primarily to carry passengers, but also offered limited freight service.  Three of the five lines were eventually owned by the Indiana Service Corp. (ISC), and the other two lines were operated but not owned by ISC.  The street car operations in many of the cities through which ISC’s lines operated, including Ft. Wayne, were also owned by ISC. Interurban services ended and the lines into Ft. Wayne were abandoned piecemeal between 1932 and 1945.  The last passenger train into Ft. Wayne was in Jan. 1941.  The line form Ft. Wayne to Garrett operated from 1941 to 1945 primarily to deliver coal to the powerhouse in Ft. Wayne. Only one of the many interurban lines in Indiana is still in operation today: the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), which operates electric passenger service on the Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad between the named cities.    Adult Matinees Feature Hit Movies Rome City, IN – March brings with it two Adult Matinees at the Limberlost Public Library.  On Wednesday, March 10 at 12:00 p.m., everyone is invited to stop in for the hilarious new release, Couples Retreat, staring Vince Vaughn and Kristen Bell.  Then on Wednesday, March 24 at 12:00 p.m., the touching movie The Blind Side, starring Academy Award Nominee Sandra Bullock will be featured.  Movie-goers should bring a sack lunch when the come to watch each movie.  Registration is requested by calling the Limberlost Public Library at 854-2775.   Book Blazers at South Side Elementary  Kendallville, IN – South Side Elementary students have a special after school book club…just for them!  The Book Blazers Reading Club, hosted by the Kendallville Public Library, meets each Thursday from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. at South Side.
