Location: Butler Eagles, 541 W Main St, Butler, IN Free Will Donations will be taken at the door. This event will benefit Waterloo Deputy Marshal Stephen Brady, who was shot in the line of duty on the morning of Thursday December 15th, 2011 and his wife Waterloo Deputy Sergeant Janet Brady. Box 708 Waterloo, IN 46793   Lord's Table dinner The Lord’s Table, February 8, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. Free dinner, conversation, and fun for the entire community. The event is hosted by Mt. Pleasant and St. Mark’s Lutheran Churches. It will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 210 N. Orange Street, Albion (This church is just one block north of the courthouse.) Everyone is welcome to attend. The menu this month includes pizza, salad, and ice cream.  NOBLE COUNTY 4-H ARCHERY Meetings will begin on February 10, at 6:30 PM at the 4-H Park west of Albion, for 1st and 2nd year Noble County 4-H Archery members.  Anyone interested in taking 4-H Archery for the first time in 2012 should attend this meeting, or call the Noble County Extension Office at (260) 636-2111 or 1-800-601-5826 for more information. Cats 'n' Cocoa Description: Spend Saturday afternoon, February 11 getting to know the Big Cats at Black Pine Animal Park, Albion for the park's annual Cats 'n' Cocoa event. Hours are 1 to 4 p.m. and everyone will be able to enjoy an "bottomless" mug of hot cocoa. The park is located at 1426 W. 300 N. Albion, IN. Event begins at the Farmstead at 4:00 p.m. then couples will hike through the grounds. A candle lite supper and heartfelt dessert will conclude the evening. Cost is $15 per couple and reservations are requested. Register by Thursday, February 9. For the Love of Literacy "For the Love of Literacy" event at the Kendallville Event Center, Kendallville, IN is the perfect way to show that special person an evening to remember. LEAP of Noble County, a county-wide literacy project, is sponsoring a beverage and food tasting. Guests should be 21 to attend. Beverages include a variety of wine and microbrews. There will be both live and silent auctions and music from Dan Heath and the Paradise Band. Tickets are $50 with a discount for presale purchases. Proceeds will benefit LEAP of Noble County. For tickets or more information, contact the LEAP office at 260-636-7011 or online at leapofnoblecounty.org 4-H PETROLEUM POWER PROJECT MEETINGS ANNOUNCED 4-H'ers interested in taking the Noble County 4-H Petroleum Power project should attend a meeting scheduled for February 14, starting at 7 PM in the Dekko Room, County Office Complex-South, on State Road 9 south of Albion. The 4-H Petroleum Power project has six meetings on Tuesday evenings starting February 21 through March 20. A banquet will be held on March 25 to recognize the 4-Hers who participated in the project, and to present the Tool Box Award to the member who has accumulated the most points in his or her Petroleum Power career. Also, a tractor driving contest will be held in June to provide members with the opportunity to demonstrate their tractor operating skills. The 4-H Petroleum Power project does an excellent job of training 4-H'ers how to properly maintain and safely operate both garden and farm tractors.  All interested young people of 4-H age(grades 3 thru 12) should plan to attend this initial meeting on February 14.  Call the Noble County Extension Office at (260) 636-2111 or 1-800-601-5826 if you have any questions about this or any other 4-H project. "Noises Off" Description: Join friends and family for "Noises Off", a East Noble Theater production on Thursday, February 16, Friday, February 17 or Sunday, February 19, Cole Auditorium, Kendallville, IN. This second production of the theater season presents a crazy look at a troupe of actors on stage and behind the scenes. Tickets can be purchased at the East Noble box office Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. or by calling 260-347-7167. Noble County Public Library East in Avilla Reading to some special four-legged friends will be on agenda during an After School Special Wednesday, February 8 at 3:15 p.m. Visiting dogs will have stories read to them out loud by children attending this program. After reading, participants will make dog treats to donate to the Noble County Humane Shelter. Genealogists to be on hand at NCPL in Albion Weekly access to the advice and expertise of two genealogists will soon be available at the Noble County Library Central in Albion. Beginning Wednesday, February 22, and every fourth Wednesday of the month thereafter, Noble County Genealogist Judy Richter and Noble County Genealogy Society member Deidre Bair will be in the Genealogy Room of the library from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Anyone wishing for help in genealogical research is encouraged to attend. No appointment is necessary and their services are free of charge. Kendallville Public Library Who Do You Think You Are: Diversity Exhibit Now through February 22 Kendallville Public Library Art Gallery: The Hoosier State's heritage will be explored in this exhibit examining the history of diversity. It looks at immigration to the United States and looks at the ways different cultures celebrate their heritage.   Library Lover’s Month Reading Challenge Now through Wednesday, February 29 Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries All during the month of February, keep reading! Patrons are invited to read a book, then write a review (forms are available in the library or online at www.kendallvillelibrary.org). Just for turning in a review, everyone gets a sweet treat, and will be entered to win great prizes, including gift cards to places like Wal-Mart, Dude’s Dairy Treat, Summer’s Stories and Pizza Hut (drawing at the end of the month). Snacks will be provided.   The Anderson Brothers of Kendallville and the Scandalous Cora Thursday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m. Kendallville Public Library Three African-American brothers moved to Kendallville from Southern Indiana shortly after the Civil War.  One of the brothers was a veteran of the 28th Regiment United States Colored Troops (Indiana) in the Civil War.  The same brother built one of the buildings on Historic Main Street Kendallville.  All three brothers and their wives worked as barbers, hair dressers and wig makers and are considered one of the early settler families of Kendallville. The only brother to have children who survived to adulthood, Jerry, had a daughter named Cora.  In 1914, Cora created a scandal that became a NATIONAL news item.  She was a pioneer in gender equality, social equality, and racial equality. Registration is required.   My Life in 2012: Scrapbook Classes Saturday, February 25 at 10:00 a.m. Kendallville Public Library Preserve your memories in 2012 by creating a monthly, scrapbook double page layout.  These classes are designed for all levels - enjoy the ease of having the layout and supplies all ready to go! The cost is $20 (per class) and includes all supplies with lots of extra kit elements to take home. Payment MUST be received 10 days prior to class. If you can't make it to class after you have registered, you will be able to pick up your kit to complete the pages at home. Please bring adhesive with you to the class.
