Friday, September 3, through Monday, September 6. Fall Bluegrass Festival It's Labor Day weekend and the music returns again for the Tri-State Bluegrass Festival, Kendallville, IN on Thursday, September 2 through Sunday, September 5. Once again the Noble County Fairgrounds will be filled with the sounds of fiddles, banjos, guitars from such groups as Freight Hoppers, Tommy Webb, Palmer Divide and the Blue RR Train. St. Mary's Labor Day Dinner, Festival St. Mary's Catholic Church, N. Main, Avilla, hosts its annual chicken and ham dinner and festival on Labor Day, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be games for the children, Bingo, raffle, farmers market, and more. BAR-B-Q CHICKEN AND PORK CHOP SUPPER  Sparta Township 4-H Clubs will be hosting a Bar-B-Q chicken and Pork Chop Supper on September 2, from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Log Building on the Fairgrounds in Kendallville.  The chicken and pork chops will be prepared by Nelson’s Golden Glow.  Carry outs will be available. The menu will include:  half chicken or pork chop, green beans or corn, applesauce, bread and butter, ice cream and drink. Donation at the door:  adults - $7.00 each, children 3 to 12 years old - $4.50 each, children 2 and under – free. The public is invited.  Free admission to the Bluegrass Festival. Watch demonstrations of rug and pottery making, listen to the sounds of cloggers and fiddlers, sample ham and beans, apple fritters and cold root beer. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults and children under 12 are free. Ege Church ham, chicken, and homemade noodles dinner Ege Catholic Church, corner of 400S and 700E, west of LaOtto, hosts its annual chicken and ham dinner, with homemade noodles. There are also games, Bingo, farmers market and more, from noon to 5 p.m. at the church.   Albion Harvest Fest Come visit the annual Albion Harvest Fest on Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September 19 at the Noble County Saddle Club Grounds, Albion. Take a step back in time and enjoy the activities and food of yesteryear. Something for ages from young to seniors. There is a straw maze and saw mill demonstration, crafts and games, and lots of good food. Admission is free and parking is available across from the grounds. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. NCCFC FALL DEMOLITION DERBY  The Noble County Community Fair Board will sponsor a Fall Demolition Derby at the Fairgrounds in Kendallville on Saturday, September 25 at 6:30 PM. Events offered will be Powder Puff, Pure Stock and the Main Derby (hardtop auto or station wagon).  Prize money will be Main Derby - $500 plus 100% payback, with $25.00 per 1st place heat winners. Grandstand ticket prices are $8.00 per adult and $4.00 per child.  Food will be available on the Fairgrounds. GARAGE SALE VENDORS NEEDED Vendors are needed for a Garage Sale on September 25, from 8 AM to 4 PM in the Merchants Building on the Fairgrounds in Kendallville, sponsored by the Noble County Community Fair Board. We are looking for anyone with garage sale items, crafts, antiques, or home based business items.  Food will be available all day.  No weapons, knives or alcohol allowed.  Unwanted items will be disposed of at the end of the day by the Fair Board.          Anyone interested in renting a 10’ x 10’ space (includes 8’ table and 2 chairs) should contact Heather Thiel at (260) 318-2127. Northeast Indiana Light the Night recruiting teams Kendallville, IN – The 2010 Northeastern Indiana Light the Night Walk will be Tuesday, Sept. 28 in Kendallville and teams are forming now. The annual walk raises funds in the battle against Leukemia and Lymphoma. This year’s goal is to have 1,000 walkers and raise at least $60,000. Teams are welcome from DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble and Steuben Counties. Pre-registration is encouraged and may be completed online at HYPERLINK "http://www.lls.org" www.lls.org or by calling Mary Allen at the Dekko Foundation, (260) 347-1278. The event begins at the East Noble High School track, takes a two-mile trek through Kendallville and nearby neighborhoods and returns to the school. The walk takes about an hour. Team check-in that day is from 5 - 7 p.m. The Opening Ceremony will be at 7 p.m with the walk starting immediately after that. The activities in the children’s area will start at 5:30 p.m., and the Mini Walk on the track will start at 6 pm. The Mini Walk is for young children or adults who are unable to walk the 2-mile route through the city of Kendallville. 1st ANNUAL TRICKS & TREATS CAMP-O-WEEN AT THE FAIRGROUNDS The Noble County Fair Board invites camping families to join the fun October 22 & 23 at the Fairgrounds in Kendallville for the 1st Annual Tricks & Treats Camp-O-Ween! Food, games, crafts, a Haunted Merchants Building sponsored by Noble County Boy Scouts, a Straw Maze in the Steer Barn built by 4-H groups, hay rides, youth, adult, pet and family costume contests, campsite decorating contest, campsite Trick or Treating and a Pitch In Chili Pot are all activities planned for both young and old alike throughout the week end. Youth will enjoy pumpkin painting, face painting, crafts, and games, while adults can participate in euchre, corn hole and horse shoe tournaments, plus Bingo and other games. Camping is $15.00 per day (Friday and Saturday).  The Ice Cream Cabin Concession Stand will be open to satisfy your hunger needs. FREE community dinner in LaOtto The LaOtto Wesleyan Church is partnering with The United Way in providing a Community Dinner on Wednesdays, beginning at 6:15 PM. The church is located at 500 S. Main St. in LaOtto. The public is invited and there is no charge for the meal but donations will gladly be accepted. There are no income guideline requirements for the meals. Following the dinner, food pantry items will be available to those in need and that meet the guideline requirements.  Kendallville Farmers Market Downtown Business Association of Kendallville hosts a Farmer's Market every Saturday morning, 8-noon, on Main Street. Rome City Farmers Market Rome City Chamber of Commerce sponsors a summer Farmer's Market on the lawn of the United Methodist Church, Washington St. behind the Super Valu grocery store. Every Friday, 4-7 p.m. through October, there will be homemade baked goods, locally grown produce, flowers and local artists' wares. PRESCHOOL OPENINGS AT ST. Knitters needed The Parkview Noble Needle Workers is a volunteer group of talented ladies who knit and crochet blankets, shawls, baby caps and chemo caps for the patients at Parkview Noble and other Parkview hospitals. They meet at the hospital the fourth Tuesday of each month from 1- 3 p.m. or 6:30 – 8 p.m. to work on their projects, as well as share ideas and collect supplies. New members are always welcome and donations of clean yarn are accepted. You can even vote for your favorite to win the People’s Choice Award.   Help the Library Earn Some Dough  Kendallville and Rome City, IN – It’s tough to resist the melt-in-your-mouth goodness of fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts. It’s even harder to resist when the money raised from the sale of the doughnuts will benefit kids and teens.  From Monday, August 16 through Friday, September 10, the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries will be taking orders for delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They’re just $6 per dozen!  Orders will also be accepted at the Ladies Night Out event at the Kendallville Public Library on Friday, September 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The fresh doughnuts will be delivered on Monday, September 20.  All the profits from the doughnut sales will be used to help fund programs and new materials for the Children’s and Teen Departments at the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries.  Both libraries will be accepting orders, so stop by whichever location is convenient to place a Krispy Kreme doughnut order.   Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the Kendallville Public Library Kendallville, IN – Stuffed animals will find out what happens overnight at the Kendallville Public Library!  Kids and their favorite stuffed animals can join Children’s Librarian Beth Munk for a pajama-jam storytime session on Friday, August 27 at 4:30 p.m.  After storytime, they’ll leave their stuffed animals for a special sleepover with Miss Beth and George, the big stuffed dog that watches over the Children’s Area of the library. Participants should have some experience with Word or Publisher. The class fee is $15.00 and includes a workbook. Paid registration is required by Saturday, September 11 and is limited to the first six paid participants.    Introduction to Excel 2007 Tuesday, September 28 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Geared toward novice users, the Introduction to Excel 2007 class teaches the basics of this Microsoft spreadsheet program. Learn how to enter data, format the data, create formulas and print. The cost of the class is $15.00 and includes a book.
